An old myth tells of the youth, Phaëthon who bragged to his friends that his father was the sun god, Apollo. When his friends refused to believe him, Phaëthon, went to his father so he could drive his chariot (the sun) for a day. When that day came, the youth lost control of the white horses and Zeus was forced to intervene by striking the runaway chariot with a lightning bolt. His close friend, Cygnus searched desperately for his body that had fallen into the river, Eridanus, diving so many times into the river that Zeus took pity on him and changed him into the swan that has since borne his name, raising his avian form into the heavens.
